My habitat is your habitat
My habitat is your habitat is the performance component to Welcome Home Habitat, an exhibition presenting a synthetic sonic rainforest inside the Sachs museum. For the performance, musicians Rich O’Donnell, Kevin Harris, and Mike Murphy will use an array of synthesis techniques to develop sounds related to our natural environment.
The performances will focus on the contextual differences between natural sounds being presented in a neutral gallery environment and the sounds being presented in a site specific garden environment. Performing in a garden gives the musicians an opportunity to interact with and consider nature as a sonic aspect of the sound environment they are creating.
The importance of listening is a fundamental element in both music improvisation and the way organisms interact with their environments. This awareness is what allows natural responses to take place whether they are synthetic sounds or organic communications. Join us for this performance as we listen, learn, and respond to our immediate sonic environment as well as celebrate the sonic voice of nature itself.
The performance takes place November 5 in front of the Sachs museum (unless it rains, then inside the museum). Attendees may interact with this sonic environment any time between 11:30am and 12:00pm.
